This image was taken from a moving canoe in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota during a week-long paddle trip into the wilderness. I was in the stern while two other people and heavy packs took up the rest of the space. Many locals live their entire lives in the area and never get to see this iconic scene.

Viewed from a park near St. Ignace, Michigan, the Mighty Mack is an engineering marvel that connects the upper and lower peninsulas of the State of Michigan, between Lake Huron, left, and Lake Michigan. A Mackinac Island ferry boat makes its way under the bridge.

Taken at the top of Brockway Mountain just outside of Copper Harbor, Michigan in July 2023: The area is rated as a Bortle 2 for darkness. The composition includes the Dark Horse Nebula, Perseid meteors, and air glow. It was a dream come true to capture the Milky Way in my home state.

Along Florida’s Gulf coast, birds include raptors and water foul such as Limpkins (left) and Snowy Egrets. Limpkins are rare and as of Feb. 23, 2024, they are no longer listed as a Florida bird by the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

This in-camera exposure took about 20 minutes while I stood on a narrow walkway located under a vehicle bridge in Florida near the Gulf of Mexico. It was so dark, I could barely see my hand in front of my face, yet my camera saw what I planned. A Black-crowned Night Heron is perched on a piling in the lower left corner and the red light is for boat navigation.

Miners Castle is one of the iconic features along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore near Munising, Michigan. In this display, three views are featured in separate images from the same vantage point: wide, medium, and close-up. To obtain this series, I looked for a vantage point different from where the throngs were located and my Mr. Salty Dog waited patiently.

In Florida, alligators are a common sight especially if you paddle or visit rivers, canals or lakes that are primarily fresh water. This big one lives at the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive area and of course I found it by parking and walking down a path less traveled. Gators can reach speeds up to 35 mph on land or 20 mph in the water. Using a long lens is prudent.

Tahquamenon Falls near Paradise, Michigan holds a special place in my heart because it’s rooted in my family’s history. My mother was raised in Paradise. These two images can stand on their own or be paired as shown. One is the lower falls, left, and the other image is the river that flows from the upper falls. I find peace in all Nature especially at Tahquamenon Falls State Park.

What better way to decorate a baby’s room than with photos that will last a lifetime: Loon With Baby — Iconic Nature, Snowy Egret With Yellow Feet, and Turtle on a Log. There are plenty of teaching moments for all ages with this peaceful grouping. The two bird images were taken while paddling and the turtle is a resident of a Florida nature park.

This image of a remote county road located in the upper peninsula of my home state of Michigan was taken during an epic Leaf Peeping Tour trip. I find peace in the vibrant fall colors, and the sounds of rustling leaves punctuated by northern song birds.

This in-camera image of a Norfolk Island Pine tree’s bough almost touching a full moon took me out of my literal comfort zone when, during post-processing, I adjusted the colors in the digital file, as shown. It is wildly popular amongst my friends and collectors as they find peace in its tones. I took this image at the end of my urban alley looking across a busy road.

Paradise, Michigan is where my mother grew up and it is a great way to describe this rugged yet peaceful area located above the 45th Parallel and the Mackinaw Bridge. To make this image, I stopped at a private residence with rental cabins and asked for permission to photograph the beach. It was a blustery fall day on the cusp of winter just outside my mother’s childhood home.
