Lake Superior Paradise

Paradise, Michigan is where my mother grew up and it is a great way to describe this rugged yet peaceful area above the Earth’s 45th Parallel and the Mackinac Bridge.

To make this image, I stopped at a private residence with rental cabins and asked for permission to photograph the beach.

Now, realize, this is small-town, remote America. When I related how my mother grew up in the area and that my grandfather ran one of the two logging operations just outside of town, the owner’s initial frown turned into a broad smile and he waved me on toward the water. I believe in karma.

It was a blustery fall day on the cusp of winter. Two days prior, I had seen “air snow” that melted as soon as it touched the ground. I wanted a vantage point of Lake Superior that is not accessible by tourists and I got one by asking.
